Learners & Provisional License Drivers with mobile phone use are not allow to;
- Make or Receive audio phone calls,
- Use music/ audio functions
- Use as a driver's aid (GPS, speed advisor app, dispatch system)
- Use their phone at all while driving or riding (including hands-free & bluetooth functions)
But Unrestricted, Learner and Provisional License Drivers are permitted to;
- Access a digital driver license (ONLY after a police officer has asked for it)
- Use wallet functions (Only if vehicle is, stationary and off the road in a carpark, driveway or drive thru).
Unrestricted License holders and all bicycle riders are permitted to use mobile phone functions if;
- In a mobile device cradle or,
- Used without touching any part of the phone (Bluetooth etc.)
Mobile Phone Detection Cameras;
- Commences as of the 1st of December in 2019 (NSW).
- They are fixed and transportable cameras across NSW locations.
- Warning letters issued (for 1st Time Offenders) for the first three months.
- After first 3 months, it is a 5 demerit point and $344 fine, $457 in school zones.
- Double demerit periods increase to 10 demerit points.
